As I continue to take inventory of the valuable people God has put in my life, I want to recognize Deloise Woods Johnson and her family. I am praising my God for Deloise because she has been a mentor, mother figure and blessing to my daughter Diamond. I met Deloise through my daughter Diamond and her boyfriend Byron, who is Deloise’s son. It’s amazing how God weaves two families together through the lives of their children. Diamond and Byron have known each other since high school and attended two proms together. Their friendship has been a lasting bond that is undeniable. As young adults, their lives will continue to be intertwined with the new arrival of their own son, Bryson Saint Woods. He was born this past week on May 19, 2016.
As parents, we never know what paths our children will take as they become adults. We want them to remember the things we taught them that will help them navigate through this life. I thank God for Deloise because she reminds me a lot of myself, especially as a mother. I see the love that Deloise has for her family and children. This love also extends to my daughter, Diamond. I can see why Diamond feels at home around Deloise and her family. This also puts me at ease because I know in my heart that Deloise and her family love Diamond.
I will forever be so grateful to Deloise because she stood in my stead as a mother for my daughter at the hospital. I was not able to be in the delivery room with my daughter as planned. Stumbling blocks and unexpected circumstances will always cause delays and interrupt our plans. Car problems can always cause a delay in our intended destination. I am thankful that Deloise, her husband, Joe, and Byron were there to support Diamond until I arrived. Kudos to Byron, for being in the delivery room to support Diamond as she delivered their son, Bryson.
Deloise has a heart of gold. She is a jewel and cares about people. These traits compliment Deloise because she is also a registered nurse. Even though I was delayed, Deloise made sure I was the first to see pictures of the birth of my grandson. She kept me abreast of everything that was going on with my daughter and grandson until I arrived. God works through others to meet our needs and assure us that everything is still under control. When I look back on my life remembering students I taught, helped and mentored, it make me feel good that I invested time in them. I treated my students as if they were my own kids. I feel that God uses Deloise to bless my child the same way He uses me to help my students.
Deloise may God continue to bless you and your family richly and provide everything you need.
